Fifth Winner of July, 2008 Scholarship |
Fifth Winner of July 2008 Having four children looking up to you for guidance is the biggest
motivator one could ever have in continuing education. I have been telling
them for years of how important school and their education is, and now
finally have the opportunity to continue mine. Continued education means so
much to my family. Without a degree, my job showed me time and again that
no matter how good I did, I would never advance unless I obtained a degree.
Now with furthering my education and obtaining a degree for the career that
suits me best, I will finally be able to financially help my children
continue with their education, and also show them first hand as to how
important their education truly is now a days. Actions speak louder than
words.....

Fourth Winner of December 2007 Scholarship |
Fourth Winner of Dec 2007 Education is a place where we can come as one and begin spreading our horizon in learning. Education is used to further ones self-confidence and one self worth. Discipline and motivation are key factors in acquiring a college education. Without an education, you are less likely to succeed in the work world. Education is the biggest investment one will ever make in their lifetime.

Second Winner of June 2007 Scholarship |
Second Winner When I was younger, I sometimes took my education opportunities for granted. I always seemed to enjoy school, but I never understood the benefits it gave me. Gradually I began to appreciate it more through high school, but I truly “got it” after my first year at Michigan State University. I discovered new classes that sparked something in me. I found a passion in me to learn more, not for a grade, but for the sake of learning. To me education means more than tests and papers, though it often has to do with those things. Education is a tool. It is freedom of the mind. It is a journey. My undergraduate education alone has absolutely changed who I am as a person. Through classes, professors/mentors, and advocacy groups I developed into the man I am today. True education does not bind your thoughts into a certain dogma, but opens the mind and encourages questioning. I believe education builds one’s character.
Above all, education to me is a privilege. As I attend my first year of graduate school this fall, I recognize the great privilege that I am able to even attend. I know that everyone does not get such an empowering chance to learn. Therefore, I plan to use this opportunity (and this scholarship) to further my knowledge in clinical counseling the best I can, remembering that some would love to be in my place but cannot.

First Winner of Dec. 2006 Scholarship |
First Winner of Dec. 2006 Education to me is obtaining information with guidance in accomplishing a predominate future. I believe that despite what we know we were born with a blank mind. Meaning that what we have learned to this point we have achieved through surroundings, whether it be good or bad. To have a future we must have a fabricated mind to prevail against peer pressure and other inadequate obsticals. Education is to fight for what we believe in physically and mentally. Further more education is a choice in which you need to survive it does not stop at me its found in the eyes of every child. Education is what you breathe and inhale. Its more than what we can see. Education is secured in the hands of you and me.
